Ag opportunities coming up at Tech

Two youth ag opportunities are coming up in February and March, one presented by Wytheville’s own Bailey Watson.

On Feb. 18, Hokie Dairy Day will be held on the campus of Virginia Tech, hosted by Madison Stifford.

Aimed at youngsters from 9 to 10, Dairy Day will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lunch will be provided with the $10 registration fee. The Saturday event will be held at the Egen Large Animal Learning Center in Blacksburg.

Older participants will learn about dairy research, herd health, industry careers and food safety. Younger participants will learn about herd management, farm safety, dairy judging and herd health.

Watson will present Youth Beef Field Day on Friday, March 17, on the Tech campus from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is hosted by the VT Beef Leadership Council and is open to youngsters from 9 to 18 years old, costing $15 per person. Groups of 10 or more will receive a discounted rate of $12.50 per person. Lunch will be provided.

Topics include nutrition, reproduction, herd health, judging and showing, meat evaluation and YQCA training.
