Arnold puts forth legislation in first term in General Assembly

Jed Arnold hit the ground running for his first General Assembly session representing the 46th district.

Arnold filed several bills dealing with criminal justice, including one that would create a rebuttable presumption against bail for certain criminal offenses.

Another piece of legislation patroned by Arnold would create mandatory minimums for those convicted of possession of controlled substances. The bill would include mandatory jail time and fines for those caught with a Schedule I or II drug.

Arnold also was chief patron on a bill that would have constitutional offices identified on the ballot by his or her political party.

One other piece of Arnold legislation would require facilities providing inpatient substance abuse treatment to prepare a certified discharge plan.

In Wythe County, Arnold put forth a bill for a quitclaim release of property rights by the Department of Conservation and Recreation, related to an offsite well and water system serving the New River Trail State Park.

The bill would authorize the department to release its rights to Wythe County Solar Project. The legislation says that New River Trail State Park no longer relies on the well and water system.
