ASD shares giving stories in video series

This GivingTuesday, Appalachian Sustainable Development (ASD) will inspire generosity through its annual campaign from Nov. 16 to 30 by sharing stories from program participants in its four-part DIRT video series.

The DIRT video series features 4 program participants who turned their lives around through working with ASD. Viewers will hear about their challenges and their resilience which ultimately led to their changed lives. DIRT videos are located at: https://asdevelop.org/donate

The word DIRT conjures up different feelings in people. Some folks think of DIRT as it relates to farming and gardening. Others immediately think of the ‘sharing of dirt’ or that so many people have ‘dirt’ in their past. Even those with the most ‘DIRT’ have something beautiful to offer. Many times, those with the most dirt have the biggest success stories to share.

Central to ASD programs is an intense focus on inclusive growth and prosperity of individuals, families and communities. Every individual matters. ASD helps to ensure no one is left behind by sharing resources, offering encouragement and hope, and working together to create a bright future.

“The DIRT series is a way for program participants to share their stories. Our job is to empower people, but the ultimate work is done by them and we wanted to honor them and feature that. Since the pandemic, people have become more comfortable talking about the underlying issues that affect them each and every day. This series shows how resilient people in Central Appalachia are”, comments Sylvia Crum, ASD Director of Communications and Development.

Each year, ASD joins the GivingTuesday effort by creating a campaign to allow supporters near and far to participate. Through storytelling and videos, supporters learn about ASD program impacts and how ASD programs serve participant. ASD is aiming to raise $25,000 this year and all donations up to $7,000 will be matched 1:1.

GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and their world. Launched in 2012, its a simple idea: to create a day that encourages people to do good and has raised billions of dollars for critical causes around the world.

“GivingTuesday inspires people all around the world to embrace their power to drive progress around the causes they care about, not just on one day but throughout the year.” said Asha Curran, GivingTuesday’s CEO, and co-founder. “With country and community leaders, millions of organizations, and countless givers of all kinds, GivingTuesday is creating a shared space where we can see the radical implications of a more generous world.”
