Backcountry campfire restrictions lifted

Effective immediately, fire restrictions for backcountry campsites on the Blue Ridge Parkway are lifted.

National Park Service officials remind visitors that while precipitation, cooler temperatures and shorter days allow for campfires to resume, fire danger is still high across the region. Fires in developed areas must also be confined to designated fire rings and grills. Always attend and fully extinguish grills and campfires until cool to the touch.

The park issued a backcountry campfire ban in November to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfire during dry conditions and the increased risk for wildfires in the park.
