Bland superintendent set to retire

Bland County’s schools chief announced that he would retire in June, ending a six-year tenure, one of the longest in recent memory at the Bland superintendent post.

Superintendent Scott Meade said he wants to spend more time with family.

Meade joined the Bland school system in 2016, arriving from Giles County, where he served as assistant superintendent. He lives in Bluefield, Virginia. He has also served as a principal, assistant principal and a teacher.

The June timeline will have Meade completing one final budget season for the schools as the next fiscal year begins July 1. On the agenda this year is renovation plans for Bland County High School.

The School Board and Board of Supervisors are scheduling a time for a joint meeting.
