Cristin Colvin, soprano, and Emory & Henry Alumna, Returns to Campus for Performance

Emory & Henry College is pleased to welcome Cristin Colvin, soprano and Emory & Henry Class of 2009, back to campus on Friday, Feb. 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the Emory United Methodist Church on the E&H campus.

Colvin will be performing a recital experience deemed the “Sisters of Light,” a project that includes selections from Symphonia armonie celestium revelationum, hymns from the Byzantine composer Kassia, and vocal pieces from 17th-century composers such as Lucrezia Vizzana and Rosa Giacinta Badalla.

The solo performance will guide attendees through a meditative experience with the transcendent sounds of voice, drone, synth, ambient electric guitar, a singing bowl, piano and other world percussion instruments.

Colvin enjoys a unique musical career that continues to challenge the conception of art music’s place in our cultural ecosystem. A piano and vocal major at Emory & Henry, Colvin went on to complete a Master of Music in Vocal Performance at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. A champion of boundary-breaking performance, she originated the title role and directed the opera Locust by Anne Guzzo in Wyoming, Morocco and Scotland from 2018-2021, produced a sensory-friendly 2017 series in Denver of new works, and worked as an improvisatory immersive actor at Dollywood in 2023. As a soloist, she has performed with the Boulder Chamber Orchestra in Goodall’s Eternal Light: A Requiem, Beethoven’s Mass in C, Op.86, and Mozart’s Mass in C, K. 427. Her operatic credits include Giovanna (all-female Don Giovanni), Phaino (Here Be Sirens), Giannetta (L’elisir d’amore), Damon (Acis and Galatea), and Euridice (Orphée et Euridice). Her own compositions have been praised in the progressive music world as “surprising and rigorous” for their “diverse songwriting [and] excellent orchestral arrangements.”

This unforgettable and transformable performance is open to the public. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased online at www.ehc.edu/mca/tickets or at the door.
