E&H player picked for All-ODAC squad

Emory & Henry College junior forward Callie McMurray has been selected to the All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference Third Team, league officials announced Friday. The teams are voted on by the league’s 13 head coaches.

McMurray started all seven of Emory & Henry’s games during the spring 2021 season, scoring a goal at Shenandoah University (Feb. 28). She tied for the team lead in goals and shots (six), putting a pair of attempts on frame.

For her career, McMurray has scored five goals with five assists in 42 appearances with 18 starts. She has twice posted a goal and an assist against Hollins University (Oct. 10, 2018; Oct. 29, 2019) and put up two assists against Southern Virginia University (Sept. 21, 2019).

It is the first time in six years that the Wasps have had a player represented on the All-ODAC Teams. Then-senior Bethany Myer was picked to the all-conference third team for her accomplishments during the 2014 season.

Emory & Henry went 1-6 during the abbreviated spring 2021 season in which it only played conference games. The Wasps saw two of their contests cancelled due to their opponents ‘opting-out’ of competition for the year. In addition to a 2-1 victory over Eastern Mennonite University to close out the year on March 28, three of the team’s losses came by just one goal.

Bridgewater College’s Hannah Randolph was tabbed at the ODAC Player of the Year while Eagle mentor Mike Van Horn earned Coach-of-the-Year honors. Morgan O’Neill of Roanoke College was picked as the ODAC Rookie of the Year. Casey Kent of Randolph-Macon College was picked as the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete by the league’s sports information directors.
