EMT classes planned for June, July, August

Becoming a certified EMT is a great first step for landing a job in the public safety arena. Those interested in serving as police officers, firefighters or paramedics can get a leg up with EMT certification.

Enrollment is now open for summer classes to be held Tuesday and Thursday nights in Wytheville, Richlands and Abingdon.

Classes begin June 1 and run through Aug. 15. There are also four Saturday sessions on June 12 and 26 and July 10 and 24.

Financial aid is available through Wytheville Community Colleges and Virginia Highlands Community College. There are also scholarships through the Virginia Office of EMS, meaning students will have little to no out-of-pocket costs for the courses.

The courses are a combination of online leaning and in-person skill and scenario sessions. Students will learn to stabilize and provide care to heart attack and stroke patients, trauma victims, sports injuries and more.

Students will obtain CPR certification as part of the course.
