U.S. Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-VA) announced that the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of High Energy Physics has provided funding for three projects at Virginia Tech which will carry out research into high energy physics. According to DOE, high energy physics is the study of fundamental particles. It explores the elementary constituents of matter and energy, the interactions between them, and the nature of space and time.

“There is still so much in our universe that has yet to be discovered,” said Griffith. “These three projects, supported by awards from the Department of Energy, will help us make new advancements in our work to understand all aspects of the world around us.”

The projects awarded are:

Virginia Tech Center for Neutrino Physics HEP Umbrella – $1,050,000; Studies of Fundamental Neutrino Properties at the Intensity Frontier – $350,000; and Muon and Neutrino Science at Virginia Tech – $250,000.
