February is for the birds

Bird is the word at the Blue Ridge Discovery Center this month.

On Saturday, Feb. 6, the center has scheduled a Burke’s Garden birding trip from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

During February, the Tazewell County locale, sometimes called God’s Thumbprint, is home to rare wintering birds from the far north, including the golden eagle and rough-legged hawk. Travel will be coordinated with registered participants. Call 276-388-3155 or email lisa@blueridgediscoverycenter to register.

The next weekend, on Feb. 13, the Troutdale Discovery Center will participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
