Broadcasts of Emory & Henry College basketball and football will be exclusively sponsored by Food Country USA on WEHC/WISE FM, College and Food Country officials announced today. This sponsorship will carry over to Emory & Henry’s video streaming partnership with FloSports on GoWasps.com as the official streaming service of the South Atlantic Conference.

“We are so excited to have Food Country USA as our exclusive broadcast sponsor,” said Vice President for Athletics Dr. Anne Crutchfield. “So many of our fans all over the country tune into the radio or streams to support our student-athletes. We’re proud of their hard work, grit and gold standard as is Food Country.”

Food Country USA, founded locally, became the exclusive title sponsor of the Wasps teams this season and has committed to the 2023-24 academic year as well.

“We are committed to the region and to the students and supporters of Wasps athletics,” said Adam Henderson, Food Country USA supervisor. “We know how hard these student-athletes work and want to support the broadcasts that will share their successes with friends, family, neighbors and the community at large who can’t get to a game.”

Food Country USA began in 1914 in a small rural area of Southwest Virginia known as Poor Valley. W.F. Henderson opened this first small country store to serve friends and neighbors in the surrounding area. Now, five generations later, what evolved as Food Country USA still strives to serve friends and neighbors at each store location in Southwest Virginia and East Tennessee. With general offices in Abingdon, Food Country is rapidly growing to become one of the largest independently owned and operated grocery chains in the region.

In 2021, Emory & Henry College became a provisional member of NCAA Division II and joined the South Atlantic Conference in 2022. This realignment has provided the opportunity for student-athletes to receive athletic scholarships in addition to academic merit scholarships and access aid.

Currently, Emory & Henry sponsors 28 varsity intercollegiate teams and recruiting is underway for women’s lacrosse and women’s rugby which will begin play during the 2023-24 academic year as well as men’s lacrosse which is scheduled to take the field in the spring of 2025.
