Granada Theater renovation gets $1.62M infusion

The Bluefield Arts and Revitalization Corporation closed on a $1.62 million investment by MVB Bank in the Granada Theater, using federal and state historic tax credits.

The nearly $4 million restoration of the theater will serve as a catalyst for community development in downtown Bluefield.

Bluefield, West Virginia, was once home to seven movie and vaudeville venues. The Granada is the last surviving one. Efforts to save the historic theater began nine years ago. Renovations, funded by the local community, allowed renovations to begin in earnest in 2019. The theater is expected to open to the public late this month.

The venue, a 500-seat auditorium, will create dozens of jobs and bring film, music, dance and live theater to the downtown area.
