A day after handing Bland County a 46-15 loss in the Mountain Empire District, George Wythe was on the road again on Wednesday, this time to the Hurricane House in Marion.
The Canes held on through a tight four quarters to claim a 56-48 victory.
On Jan. 3, Fort Chiswell’s girls took out Auburn 62-46, laying claim to an MED win.
After battling to a 7-7 tie in the opening stanza, the Lady Pioneers ripped open a 25-11 second quarter to head into the second half leading by 14. The Eagles cut the lead to 10 in the third frame, but fell victim to a 19-13 run by Fort Chiswell in the fourth quarter. The FC girls improved to 6-4 on the season and 2-0 in the Mountain Empire.
Radford hung the first loss on the George Wythe boys on Dec. 30. 56-42.
