Holston wraps up perfect season, GW recognizes coach

George Wythe recognized coach Kenny Sayers for his commitment to Maroon athletics and the community on a night when the Maroons got down to the business of handing county and district rival Fort Chiswell a second loss on the season.

The Jollay boys put a 27-6 hurting on Fort Chiswell, holding the Pioneers to just 104 rushing yards. FC senior Ezra Varney had 91 of that, scoring the Fort’s only TD of the night.

Ben Jollay pile up 112 yards for GW, scoring twice, and Luke Jollay ran in a touchdown as the Maroons wraped up a 6-3 season.

Down the road a ways, Chilhowie didn’t have an answer for Holston as the Cavaliers concluded a perfect regular season with a 16-3 win in Warrior territory.

Chilhowie’s lone score on the night came off Daniel Hutton’s foot on a first quarter field goal.

While Holston piled up 230 rushing yards, the Warriors were limited to 56 on the ground. Despite the numbers being against them, the Cavs showed more in the air, too, completing three of 12 passes for 79 yards. Chilhowie completed eight of 20 for 57 yards.

For a minute on Friay, it looked as if Northwood would pull off a big upset over the Rebels, building up a 21-7 lead at the half.

Patrick Henry came alive in the in the back of the game, though, scratching out a 28-21 Hogoheegee victory.

In a final Hogo battle, No. 52 was the spark for the Indians to end their season with a big 28-7 win over Lebanon.

In the first quarter wrestling standout Eli Fortuner picked up a loose Lebanon ball and jetted 90 yards for the first score of the game.

That score broke open the game early as the Indians notched 310 yards in offense to overwhelm the Pioneers.
