East Tennessee State University’s Office of Professional Development invites children and youth to participate in a series of events scheduled this summer in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of the Renaissance Child Camps.

The camps offer a variety of education, hands-on and interactive sessions for children in first grade through high school. The first Renaissance Child Camps were held in the summer of 2002, and the program has grown in popularity since that time. The camps aimed at providing participants with a variety of academic, creative and physical activities are based on the STREAM (science, technology, reading/recreation, engineering, arts and math) educational curriculum and follows Tennessee Common Core State Standards.

The one-week camps take place June 6-July 29 with the exception of July 4-8. Each camp is a five-day experience and activities are held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Returning camps include “Teen Art at the Reece Museum”, a “Teen Baking camp” and a “Teen Robotics Camp” for students entering 7th grade and are age 12 and up. Additional camps for students in the first through sixth grade will expand educational horizons in “Earth Science”, “Cool Chemistry Fun”, “POP: Preserve our Plant” and “Construction Zone.”

Registration is required. The cost is $190 per week with discounts available for children of ETSU employees and for students who are registered for multiple camps.

Masks will be optional at this time and CDC protocols will be in place. Swimming and field trips will be contingent upon Covid-19 developments.
