Lincoln embraces spooky season

The Lincoln Theatre is in the spooky spirit!

They will be offering a variety of programming for Halloween in October.

As part of their $5 Friday Flix program, they are celebrating the 50th Anniversary of The Exorcist on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.

This horror classic hasn’t been shown in the historical movie palace since its original run in 1973. Tickets can be purchased at the door on the night of the show. Included in the ticket price will be a raffle ticket to win a copy of The Exorcist Legacy: 50 Years of Fear by Nat Segaloff.

The spooky festivities continue on Oct. 28. The day will be filled with 13 hours of frighteningly fun activities. Family friendly Halloween cartoons will start at noon and continue until the Community Costume Contest begins. Originally started back in the 1960s, this community event is making its return after nearly 50 years. The contest begins at 1:30 p.m. and entry is free. There will be prizes given out to the best costumes in each age group. Everyone is welcome to participate and strut their spooky, funny or creative costumes across The Lincoln Theatre’s historic stage.

The day continues with a variety of classic horror flicks. Can you survive a whole day of frights? Dread Through The Decades will feature a spooky film from every decade of The Lincoln’s original run. The film festival starts at 3 p.m. with a screening of the first adaptation of Dracula, the silent movie Nosferatu (1922). The Blood of a Poet (1932) begins at 4:30 p.m. and features a more experimental take on the horror genre. At 5:30 p.m. the original Cat People (1942) will be screened just before the scares get amped up. Curse of Frankenstein (1957) features horror icon Peter Cushing and will be screened at 7 p.m. After the sun has set you’ll hear some of those classic circus tunes in Night Tide (1961). The night ends with the Italian horror film Suspiria (1977). This event is free. Drop by for a movie or two, or challenge yourself to a full night of scares!
