Missing plane, body of pilot discovered

A 74-year-old Hillsville pilot, identified as Caleb A. Glick, was the lone occupant in a downed plane, according to Virginia State Police.

Authorities recovered the crashed plane and Glick’s remains on Tuesday while searching for a missing aircraft in a wooded area in Carroll County.

State police responded to the 600 block of Little Bit Road near Hillsville and confirmed the wreckage is that of the missing aircraft. The pilot, and the plane’s only occupant, was discovered deceased in the wreckage of the privately owned Cessna 150.

The plane had departed the Hillsville-Twin County Airport on Monday afternoon and was later reported overdue for arrival at North Carolina’s Burlington Alamance Regional Airport. That evening, search efforts began near the Carroll County and Patrick County border.
