Montgomery crash on 81 kills Atkins man

A Tuesday crash on Interstate 81 killed a 56-year-old Atkins man, the Virginia State Police reported.

Police investigated the one-vehicle crash that occurred March 26 at 10:43 p.m. on northbound I-81 in Montgomery County.

A 2013 Ford F750 truck was traveling northbound on I-81 at the 117-mile marker when it went off the road to the right, struck a sign, then crossed the northbound lanes, and went off the road to the left.  The vehicle then struck a guardrail and overturned, ejecting the driver.

The driver of the truck, Michael D. Williams, 56, of Atkins died at the scene, police said.  He was not wearing a seat belt.
