Roanoke rallies for win over Emory

The Roanoke College Baseball Team scored five runs in the final two innings to rally from an 8-4 deficit to win, 9-8, over Emory & Henry College Tuesday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.

E&H got on the board in the bottom of the first when senior right fielder Hayden Milley drove in senior shortstop Caleb Haynes with a sacrifice fly. The Maroons tied the contest, 1-1, in the second on a single through the left side by Gavin Kandrick and went up, 3-1, thanks to a pair of runs in the third inning.

In the bottom half of the third, the Wasps pushed six runs across to go up 6-3. Milley had a RBI triple while junior left fielder Jacob Zoller highlighted the frame with a two-run double down the left field line.

Roanoke answered with a Conner Butler single to left field in the fifth frame to draw the score to 6-4 but the Wasps got a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame thanks to miscues by the Maroons to lead, 8-4.

The Maroons scored four in the eighth highlighted by Tyler De Meo’s bases-clearing double to left center to tie the contest at eight runs apiece. RC went ahead 9-8 in the ninth as Kandrick plated Jacob Bonzon with a single through the left side.

Down to their final three outs, the Wasps saw sophomore Eli Milhorn hit a pinch-hit double to right center. Junior centerfielder Connor Buchanan Milhorn to third with a sacrifice bunt. It looked as if E&H was going to tie the contest with a sacrifice fly by Haynes, but the right fielder came up throwing and completed the game-ending double play at the plate.

Roanoke’s Aiden Kuhle earned the win in relief, scattering four runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts over six-plus innings of work. Josh Dawson earned the save, getting the final two outs. E&H freshman Will Clark went six innings as he earned a no-decision, allowing two earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts. Junior Michael Owen) suffered the loss, allowing one run on one hit and two walks in the ninth.

The No. 32 Washington and Lee University men’s tennis team earned a 9-0 win against Emory & Henry College (4-6, 3-4 ODAC) in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action Tuesday.
