Rural Retreat High School football coach and athletic director was named the Class 1 and 2 AD of the year.
Jamey Hughes, who has been at the school since 2005, was honored by the School Board on Thursday, with members noting how tough this year has been, especially for athletics.
Rural Retreat High Principal Charles Debord said that it feels like it’s more of a recognition for Hughes’ past 10 years of service, pointing out that Hughes has been invested in student athletes for his entire tenure.
Debord said that Hughes makes sure that student-athletes have what they need to be successful on and off the field.
Superintendent Scott Jefferies too praised Hughes’ commitment to students
For his part, Hughes said he has been blessed to work for some good administrators, principals and assistant principals.
“They turned me loose and let me do my thing,”he said.
