Scott Memorial runner takes first at Abingdon cross country race

Abingdon High hosted the Don Cumbow Invitational at Sugar Hollow Park in Bristol, Virginia, on Oct. 20.

Chilhowie’s Tess Somervell finished 53rd among the varsity girls, stopping the clock at 26:04.80.

Lucas Blevins of Chilhowie turned in an eighth-place time of 16:56.80. James Nash clocked in at 18:49.00, good for 27th among the boys varsity. Mason Lee’s 18:59.30 earned 30th, and Connor Murphy finished 34th with a time of 19:13.10. Lucas Hubble stopped the clock at 19:58.50 to take 51st place. Nolan Blevins was 115th with a time of 24.55.10.

Fort Chiswell Middle School girls Kamri Campbell and Scarlett Windhom took 56th and 57th, respectively. Campbell clocked in at 18:25.30 and Windhom at 18:25.40.

Aurora Haywood of Fort Chiswell High took 37th, finishing at 24:00.08.

Gabin Grubb and Aaron Burcham of Fort Chiswell Middle finished in 36th and 44th, respectively, in the boys race. Grubb clocked in at 14:42.70 in the 3000 meter, and Burcham stopped the watches at 16:01.30.

Landon Spurlock crossed the finish line in the varsity race in 112th place, turning in a time of 24:42.30.

Dianna White led the Galax girls with a 24:35.70 to earn 43rd place. Grace Justice finished in 28:12.70 to claim 69th. Finishing in 71st, Raygan Cocke clocked in at 28:39.80, and Ryley Cocke’s 29:17.60 was good for 73rd.

Among the Tide boys, Caleb Mitchell finished in 47th with a time of 19:45.30. Walther Whitman and Caleb Whitman finished in 71st and 77th, respectively. Walter clocked in at 21:26.50 and Caleb at 21:51.40. Evan King’s time of 22:10.20 earned him 85th, and Juan Morales finished in 23:00.60 to claim 96th. Simon Hanks finished in 24:48.30 to take 114th place.

Scott Memorial’s Emma Faulkner grabbed first in the middle school run, clocking in at 12:28.10. Haley Fox claimed fifth in the girls middle school run, finishing in 14:32.70. Mia Wolfe nabbed a 10th-place finish with a time of 14:45.40. Nora Simons’ time of 15:45.50, earning 23rd. June Morrison was 25th, stopping the clock at 15:51.00.

Morgan Dalton led the GW girls with a seventh-place finish, clocking in at 20:19.90. Camryn Hardin’s time of 20:51.10 earned her a 12th-place finish. Kara Temple and Kaleigh Temple finished in 21:20.00 and 21:41.70, respectively. Kara claimed 15th and Kaleigh 17th. In 25th, Carrie-Sage Dalton clocked in at 22:57.60, and Emerson Hardin’s 23:33.00 earned her 32nd.

Lucas Mabry led the Scott contingent in the middle school run, clocking in at 16:16.00 for 46th. Nash Gilman turned in a time of 17:05.90, good for 53d.

Josh Tomiak led the George Wythe boys with a 10th place finish, stopping the clock at 17:10.10. Brett Buchanan’s 17:45.40 run was good for 15th, and Oscar Montgomery earned 18th place with an 18:17.40 finish. Conley Martin clocked in at 19:15.30 to take 35th, and Eli Tomiak nabbed 43rd with a time of 19:38.30. Riley Hall’s 21:16.20 put him in 66th, and Landon Ferguson finished in 84th with a time of 22:07.30. Izzaac Alley’s 24:32.50 was good for 110th place and Sebastian Gomez finished in 25:02.70 to claim 118th.

Marion Senior High’s Cameron Greer finished the varsity run in 64th place, clocking in at 27:27.20. Abigail Melvins 30:20.80 earned 78th, and Kaelyn Pennington finished in 91st with a time of 37:52.30.

Wyatt Hall led the Hurricane boys with a 21:50.90 finish, earning 78th. Will Burkett’s 83rd place came courtesy of a 22:00.10 time. Isaac Roberson clocked in at 22:42.50 to take 91st. Micah Draper finished in 92nd, with a time of 22:45.00.

Dakoda Singleton finished in 22:48.50, good for 93rd. Jeramy Salks’ 23:04.00 time earned him 98th, and a time of 24:57.20 gave Cameron Draper 116th. Ben Roberson finished in 117th with a 24:57.50 finish, and Okeeba Meade clocked in at 29:58.10 to earn 127th.

The George Wythe boys finished in third as a team. Chilhowie claimed fifth. Galax was 12th and Marion 14th. Abingdon High took first among the boys.

Abingdon’s girls made it a clean sweep, taking first. George Wythe finished in second among the girls.
