Tate, Faulkner, Crigger bring home multiple medals from state track meet

George Wythe and Rural Retreat brought home the bling from the state track and field championships held in Harrisonburg on June 3 and 4.

McKenzie Tate and Haley Faulkner led the Maroon girls to a fourth-place finish at the state meet, tying with Patrick Henry High School. Each team had 44 points. Auburn took first in the girls tourney with 96.50 team points.

Tate finished with two golds at the meet, taking first in the 200-meter dash with a 26.32 time and in the 400-meter dash, stopping the clock at 58.98.

Faulkner claimed her gold in the long jump, landing at 16 feet, 6.5 inches. Faulkner was ninth in the triple jump, hitting a 32-foot, 2-inch mark. She finished ninth, too, in the 200 meters with a time of 28.62. She finished eighth in the 400-meter dash, stopping the clock at 1:04.41.

The Maroon 4×100 team also brought home gold, finishing at 51.35. The 4×400 team clocked in at 4:51.44 to claim 15th.

Ella Richardson finished sixth in the 100-meter hurdles, stopping the clock at 17.97.

Like Tate, Rural Retreat’s Olivia Crigger returned to Wythe County with a couple of gold pieces around her neck.

Crigger finished first I the 100-meter hurdles, posting a time of 15.75. She was first, too, in the triple jump, hitting the 34-foot, 9-inch mark.

Crigger added to the hardware with a second-place finish, clearing a 4-foot, 10-inch bar. She was fifth in the long jump, clearing 16 feet, 1 inch.

Teammate Makayla Anderson wound up eighth in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking in at 18.75. Anderson was 10th in the 300-meter hurdles, finishing at 53.85.

The Rural Retreat 4×100 meter relay team took 11th with a time of 56.08. The 4×400 team finished in 4:58.48 to take 17th.

The Indians finished in seventh place as a team with 32 points. Chilhowie took eighth with 27 points and Fort Chiswell had 10 points to earn 18th.

Tess Somervell led the Warrior contingent with a silver medal finish in the 800 meter run, stopping the watch at 2:27.61. Hannah Manns grabbed a bronze with a 33-foot, 8-inch triple jump.

Madison Prater was fourth in the shot put, tossing 32 feet, 3.75 inches. Gwen Robbins was eighth in the shot put, clearing 31 feet, 4 inches. Prater was 12th in discus throw, hitting 80 feet, 6 inches.

The 4×100 meter relay team was fifth, clocking in at 53.18, and the 4×400 meter relay team was sixth, clocking in at 4:33.88. The 4×800 meter relay team finished in 11:58.20 to earn 12th.

Audrey Gilley finished 10th in the 400 meter dash, finishing in 1:06.13. Isabella Payan took 16th with a time of 1:08.19.

Kayman Atwell took 12th in the 300 meter hurdles, finishing in 55.14.

Autumn Green was 15th in the preliminaries for the 100-meter dash, clocking in at 13.64.

Katie Alderman competed in four events for the Pioneers, placing fourth in the high jump with a 4-foot, 10-inch leap. She took sixth in the 300-meter hurles with a time of 51.97. 15th in the long jump with a 14 foot, 6 inch leap and 13th in the triple jump, leaping 30 feet, 11 inches.

Aurora Haywood, competing in two events, secured 13th in the 100-meter hurdles preliminaries with a 19.67 time. Haywood was 15th in the triple jump, clearing 30 feet, 0.5 inches. Carmen Brown was eighth in the long jump, clearing 15 feet, 6.5 inches. The FC 4×100 team was eighth, clocking in at 54.76.

In the Class 2 event, also at Harrisonburg, Marion’s girls team earned 2.5 points to finish in 30th place. The 4×100 meter relay team clocked in at 54.44 to claim 12th place. Raegan Cox nabbed a fifth-place finish with a 4-foot, 10-inch high jump.

Patrick Henry finished first in the boys event, posting 107.50 team points.

George Wythe’s nine team points earned the Maroons 22nd place.

Elijah Masten-Hale jumped to a fourth place finish in the long jump and a fifth place finish in the triple jump. The Maroon hit a 20-foot, 3.75 inch mark in the long jump and cleared 41 feet, 4.75 inches in the triple jump.

Nathan Swatsky and Reece Vaught finished back-to-back, taking 14th and 15th, respectively, in the 300-meter hurdles. Swatsky turned in a time of 47.90 and Vaught finished in 48.82.

The Maroons 4×400 relay team finished 13th with a time of 3:50.83, and the 4×800 team clocked in at 9:41.72 to earn 16th.

Fort Chiswell earned three team points, claiming 29th place. Those points all came from Conner Lester’s sixth-place finish in the discus throw. Lester hit 129 feet, nine inches.

Rural Retreat earned two team points for 32nd place. Gatlin Hight finished 18th in the preliminaries with a 12.18 run in the 100-meter dash.

The Indian 4×100 team took seventh with a time of 46.62 and 11th in the 4×400, clocking in at 3:49.11.

In Class 2, Marion tied with Richlands for 38th with each team posting one point.

Domenico Bruzzo-Morello who competed in two events, taking eighth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:34.22 and 15th in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:32.56.

Jeremy Salks was 13th in the 800 meter run, clocking in at 2:14.11 and Cooper Farley was 12th in the 100-meter dash preliminaries, clocking in at 11.64. The 4×100 relay team finished 14th with a time of 48.19.

Chilhowie’s Dyln Stevenson finished 14th in the 800-meter run, clocking in at 2:13.06. Gavin Davie was 14th in the triple jump, clearing 38 feet, 6.75 inches.

The Warrior 4×400 team finished in 16th with a time of 3:56.40, and the 4×800 team’s 9:24.51 offering earned them 14th.
