The Girl and Raven among restaurants winning egg prize

To encourage Virginia consumers to support local restaurants that serve eggs during the summer of 2021 after a tough past year, the Virginia Egg Council launched an integrated five-week digital campaign, kicking off in mid-July and running through mid-August.

This Virginia-based initiative supplemented the American Egg Board’s national summer program, which focused on the experience of revisiting favorite neighborhood restaurants to reconnect with friends and family.

America’s restaurants have suffered during the COVID-19 pandemic, so, to help in the recovery process, Virginia Egg Council supported AEB’s national summer restaurant support campaign by encouraging Virginians in the five regions of the state to nominate their favorite regional restaurant that serves eggs using an online form to win a $1,000 prize.  The prize was designed to help restaurants rebuild or make needed updates, bring back employees, and/or support employees who have experienced financial losses during the pandemic.

Nearly 300 nominations were submitted online, and the campaign reached 1.45 million Virginians across the state.  Social media and digital advertising were used to help increase reach and nominations.

Five local independent restaurants were selected to win the $1,000 prize, which will be distributed in early September by the Virginia Egg Council team. Regional winners include Our Daily Bread in Roanoke and The Girl and the Raven in Abingdon.
