The hills are alive with the sound of music! Theatre Bristol takes the stage again this June with the beloved classic, “The Sound of Music,” with director Glenn Patterson and sponsor Leticia Peltzer, ENT & Allergy Consultants. This two-weekend only breathtaking musical features amazing talent from around the region, many seen in lauded Theatre Bristol productions on the Paramount stage such as Les Misérables, The Music Man, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Annie, The Wizard of Oz, Into the Woods, Fiddler on the Roof, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and more (www.TheatreBristol.org).
The Sound of Music, the final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein, was destined to become the world’s most beloved musical. Featuring a trove of cherished songs, including “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do Re Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and the title number, The Sound of Music won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars. The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows an ebullient postulate who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain Von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. As the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire Von Trapp family must make a moral decision (Concord Theatricals). Music and lyrics for The Sound of Music are written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, with the book by Howard Lindsay and Russell Crouse. The musical is based on “The Trapp Family Singers,” the true story of Maria Augusta Trapp.
Molly Doss is the endearing Maria Rainer, who enchants the stern Captain Georg von Trapp played by James Francis. The singing von Trapp children are Leahnees Miller as Liesl, Asher Church as Friedrich, Baleigh Mckeehan as Louisa, Reece Hilt as Kurt, Avery White as Brigitta, Addison Lowe as Marta, and Kellyn Lowe as Gretl. Liesl’s love interest, Rolf Gruber, is played by Mason White. Alisa Hearl brings elegance to Baroness Elsa von Schraeder and Elijah Berry keeps the mood light as Max Detweiler. Martha Hawk as Mother Abbess, with Leticia Peltzer as Sister Berthe, Leah Graham as Sister Margaretta, and Mary Ellis Rice as Sister Sophia, fill the Nonnberg Abbey with music. Eric Hyche as Franz, Christina Piazza as Frau Schmidt, and Whitney Brooks as Ursula serve in the von Trapp household. Mike Musick is Admiral von Schreiber, Joey Collard is Herr Zeller, Dan Gray is Baron Elberfeld, Angie Hyche is Baroness Elberfeld, and Amanda Surber is the new postulant. Steve Baskett, Randy Callahan, Samuel Davis, Janie Gayle, Gianna Gobble, Annie Griffith, Zada Hardin, Hannah Pope, Enelisa Sutton, Lucy Tester, Ashton Williams, and Dodge Wolfe fill out the ensemble of nuns, partygoers, and festival winners.
Glenn Patterson, long-time Theatre Bristol director and actor, leads the production. Camille Gray choreographs and serves as the costume designer. Nicole Intagliata heads the production team as stage manager. Lauren Naff is the set designer and Samantha Gray is the producer. The production crew includes Cindi Brooks, Terra White, Ann Vance, Albert Tester, Terry Marek, Luke Gray, Rebekah McGrady, Ryan Gray, Daniel Tester, Maliah Tilley, Jim Altman, Mimi Tamsin, Zach Cleland, and The Paramount Center for the Arts.
Opening June 17 at 7:30 pm, the production runs for two weekends, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm, Sundays at 2:30 pm, Thursday, June 23 at 7:30 pm, closing on June 26. Tickets are $16 for adults and $12 for students and seniors, with processing fees, and can be purchased at ParamountBristol.org. Tickets can also be purchased at the door. Performances are at the Paramount Center for the Arts, at 518 State Street, Bristol, Tennessee.
