An unidentified Wythe County driver and a passenger on a motorcycle were killed in a June 8 crash on Interstate 81, Virginia State Police said.
Trooper responded to the 8:12 p.m. multi-vehicle crash on southbound I-81 near the 73-mile marker.
Officials say a Kia Forte ran off the left side of the southbound lanes of I-81 and went through the median, where it struck a northbound tractor-trailer head-one. The impact of that collision sent the Kia into the path of a northbound Honda Goldwing motorcycle, which was unable to avoid hitting the Kia.
The driver of the Kia and a passenger on the motorcycle died at the scene.
A passenger in the Kia and the motorcycle’s operator were flown to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
