VHCC concert planned

A recital chronologically demonstrating all styles of Jazz and seeking to educate listeners to the origins and development of Jazz music. You’ll enjoy styles including Dixieland, African-inspired works, Big Band Swing, Bebop, Cool Jazz, Latin, and Fusion – all performed by an amazing collection of professional musicians. Composers include Gershwin, Hancock, Gillespie, and Strayhorn.

This popular exciting concert is back by demand and will be led by Dr. Joseph Trivette the Artistic Director and Pianist. Trivette is the holder of the Albert Endowed Chair of Music at Southwest Virginia Community College. His various ensembles have achieved outstanding local and national acclaim.  Don’t miss this afternoon of great American Jazz music.  This concert would be great to bring middle and high school band students too also.

The Virginia Highlands Community College Christmas Concert is set for Dec. 7 at the Keyser-Aday Theatre in Abingdon. Admission is free to students and employees and a $5 donation is suggested.

The annual concert by the VHCC Mixed Choir and Women’s Chorus has become a tradition in past years. The concert will blend sacred and secular favorites and will feature soloists and instrumentalists. The program will provide something for everyone and will put you in the holiday spirit. Enjoy the wonderful music these students and community members will present. The groups are directed by Mary Munsey and accompanied by Krystal Smith on piano and Schery Collins on flute. Arrive early (6:45 pm) to enjoy lovely pre-concert music by VHCC’s fabulous Chandler Foster and Pravda Bauer!
