Wasps picks up win in busted double-header

The Emory & Henry College Softball Team (3-5) picked up a 17-3 win over Lincoln (Pa.) University (1-9) in the first game of the day Wednesday. The Wasps jumped on the Lions for a 15-0 lead through three innings of game two, but Mother Nature had other plans as the contest was washed out with no outs in the top of the fourth.
Lincoln jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first as Irlynn Richardson drove in a run with a ground ball to shortstop and Kevyn Jones plated a pair with a double down the left field line.

In the bottom of the frame, the Wasps stormed back with nine runs. Sophomore shortstop Rachel Hill (Stanardsville, Va.) and sophomore third baseman Ashlyn Rachon (Greeneville, Tenn.) each tallied three-run homers while sophomore second baseman Abigail Street (Glade Spring, Va.) had a solo shot.

In the second, senior catcher Morgan Silvis (Green Cove Springs, Fla.) got things started with a solo home run while Street added a two-run double to push the advantage to 14-3.

Emory & Henry continued to put the pressure on in the third with a two-run double by Hill highlighting the frame for a 17-3 advantage. E&H’s defense allowed just one baserunner in the final two innings to seal the lopsided victory.Junior right-hander MaKayla Dowdy (Blacksburg, Va.) earned the win, allowing three runs on six hits with five strikeouts in four innings. Freshman lefty Bailey Payne (Fairview, Va.) struck out two of the three batters she faced. Cate Liskey suffered the loss for the Lions, allowing six runs on six hits while recording just one out.
