Water time in the works at Hungry Mother

Get out on the water this summer with Hungry Mother’s morning kayak tours.

Groups meet at the Dock ‘n Shop at 9 a.m. for an hour and a half paddle. Those taking a tour must be at least 8 years old. Pre-register at the Discovery Center by calling (276) 781-7400.

In addition to parking, fee is $10 person.

Early morning kayak tours are set for 9 to 10:30 a.m. on July 9, 16 and 30, Aug. 6, 13, 20 and 27, Sept. 3, 10, 17 and 24 and Oct. 1 and 8.

If the morning kayak tour is too early to be out on the water, consider taking a full moon canoe tour at Hungry Mother State Park.

Participants will meet at the boat doc for the two-hour adventure.

Watch as the moon rises over the lake, paddling a small portion of the lake before heading into the beach to sit by a fire and try to call in the owls. Afterward, get back aboard and paddle back to the dock.

Participants must be at least 6 years old, and pre-registration at the Discovery Center is required. Cost is $10 per person.

Two full moon canoe tours are on tap, each from 9 to 11 p.m. The first is July 3 and the second is Aug. 1.
