Grayson County Deputy Steven Greer was transporting a transient passenger to Wythe County this evening when a rear dually truck wheel from a south bound vehicle broke loose and struck the front of his patrol vehicle.
The passenger was transported to Wythe County Community Hospital by Independence Rescue Squad as a precaution. No one was injured in the crash. Greer received minor skin burns from the deployed air bag. K-9 Atos also escaped the crash without injury. Virginia State Police are investigating the incident.
Sheriff Richard Vaughan said the push bumper on the patrol vehicle prevented additional damage to the vehicle and the occupants.
