Wythe County OKs fire truck buys

Wythe County officials spent $800,000 to buy a pumper truck and brush ruck for Ivanhoe Volunteer Fire Department, a pumper truck for Speedwell Volunteer Fire Department and a 24-foot incident command trailer for the Sheriff’s Office.

Board members gave an OK to buy two 2,500-gallong Old South pumper trucks and a 450-gallon Dodge brush truck from Brindlee Mountain at a total cost of $750,000.

The incident command trailer will cost $75,700.

Officials are looking into whether CARES Act funding can be used for the trailer, which will be built by Great Dane.

Assistant County Administrator Matt Hankins said that the state has suggested that all localities should have a trailer.
