Wytheville restaurant catches fire

Firefighters on Tuesday battled a blaze at one of Wythe County’s oldest buildings.

The fire at the Log House Restuarant was reported just after 6 p.m. Flames engulfed the top floor of the building, eating through the roof and casting a smoky shadow on Main Street. A portion of the roof collapsed at 6:30 p.m. Fire and police closed a portion of the road running in front of the popular restaurant that began its life as a log cabin in 1776.

Billed as fine dining in an 18th century atmosphere, the building also boasted a lounge and gift shop.

A popular spot with locals and visitors, social media was filled with photos of the fire Tuesday night.

Though the first in Wytheville, the fire follows on the heels of a blaze that shuttered a popular antiques shop on Marion’s Main Street.
