Morgan, David Parmley Band set to play Floyd Country Store

Sarah Kate Morgan and The David Parmley Band are on tap to play the Floyd Country Store in June.

Morgan, who will perform June 5 at 7 p.m., was inspired by a dulcimer built by her grandfather. The Tennessee-born Morgan began playing the instrument at 7 years old. In 2012, at the age of 18, Morgan placed first at the National Mountain Dulcimer Championships in Winfield, Kansas.

Morgan is also a talented singer and songwriter whose style reflects and honors life in southern Appalachia. She has performed and/or recorded with roots music giants such as Tyler Childers, Alice Gerrard, and Erynn Marshall & Carl Jones. Having achieved degrees in Traditional Music, Appalachian Studies, and Arts Administration from Morehead State University, her work centers on a lived belief that art and tradition are living, breathing tools that foster hope, build community, and create change.

The David Parmley Band will take the stage at 7 p.m. on June 8.

Parmley began his musical journey at 15 and by the time he was 17 he was a full-time musician, performing with The Bluegrass Cardinals, a band that featured his father and three Los Angeles musicians. In 1975 they made their way to the Washington DC area and began performing several nights a week for several years. David’s lead and baritone voice was the backbone to The Cardinal sound. Dozens of musicians have worked with David and his father, Don, over the years but “The Sound” remained constant. The Bluegrass Cardinals recorded dozens of projects during their 25 year run. The material is considered the finest to come out of the 70’s and 80’s bluegrass era. David left The Bluegrass Cardinals in the 90’s to pursue a solo career. After taking some time off, David Parmley has returned to bluegrass music with a new renewed spirit.
