Canes make strong show at track meet

Marion’s boys hauled home gold in the 4×200 relay at the Region D 1A/2A championship held at Roanoke College on Friday, clocking in at 1:40.73.

The Marion girls’ 4×200 relay crew took sixth with a 2:13.96 run.
The Hurricane boys took second in the 4×800 relay, clocking in at 9:45.20.

Marion’s 4×400 girls relay team took sixth behind a 5:39.41 finish. The Marion boys took sixth with a time of 4:48.93.

Marion’s boys finished in seventh place with 38 points. The Hurricane girls’ 43 points earned them seventh as a team.

Domenico Bruzzo-Morello finished third in the 1600 meter run, clocking in at 4:56.87. Fellow sophomore Alex Arbrister took 10th place, clocking in at 5:36.55. Will Burkett finished in 13th place with a time of 6:04.73.
Senior Jeramy Salks finished seventh in the 1000 meters, posting a 3:08.82 finish. In 10th place, Elijah Wheatley finished in 10th place, clocking in at 3:15.53. Alex Armbrister’s 3:25.57 was good enough for him to take 12th.

Sophomore Gage Stamper claimed sixth in the 3200-meter run, stopping the clock at 16:18.87.

Sophomore Brody Whitt clocked in at 7.03, earning sixth-place in the 55-meter dash. J.B. Carroll, a junior, took seventh with a 7.08 sprint. Senior Matthew Pruitt finished in ninth place, stopping the watch at 7.10.

Parker Wolfe, a junior, took eighth in the 300-meter dash, stopping the clock at 40.05. Carroll’s time of 42.55 earned him 12th place. Junior Wyatt Hall finished in 15th place, clocking in at 43.71.
Junior Joseph McGuire tossed for 29 feet, 8.5 inches, earning 13th in the shot put.

Freshman Bradyn Armstrong took 11th in the 500 meters, finishing in 1:33.88. Freshman Angel Wheatley finished 14th with a time of 1:35.58.

Armstrong’s 12-foot, 0.25-inch effort in the long jump earned him a 14th-place finish.

In the 500 meters, Sophomore Alexa Blevins earned fourth, clocking in at 1:41.54. Fellow sophomore Katilyn Harden finished in 2:05.48, good for eighth place.

Marion’s Ruby Hoerter took fifth in the 1000-meter run, clocking in at 3:36.04. Maimiti Comoy, a junior, took sixth with a time of 3:47.47.

Hoerter finished in the bronze position in the 3200 meter run, clocking in at 13.21.

Ava Smith, a Marion sophomore, cleared 14 feet, 10 inches in the long jump, good for fourth place.

Smith earned 11th in the 55-meter dash, clocking in at 8.43. Anna Winebarger, a junior, finished in 8.66 to take 13th. Alyssa Tolbert, a junior clocked in at 8.69, good for 14th.

Smith took 15th in the 300-meter dash, clocking in at 51.59. Winebarger clocked in at 53.26, good for 16th place. Sophomore Emily Hash finished in 55.76, earning 19th place.
Raegan Cox, a junior, finished sixth in the triple jump, clearing 31 feet, 7.25 inches. Cox was seventh in the long jump, clearing 14 feet, 3 inches. Cox took second in the high jump, clearing a 4-foot, 8-inch bar.

In the girls shot put, Marion sophomore Madison Long hit 20 feet, 4.25 inches, good for ninth place. Tolbert finished in 10th with an 18-foot, 4-inch toss.
