Crowdfunding campaign launched for Log House Restaurant

Downtown Wytheville has launched a crowdfunding campaign to come to the aid of a historic restaurant devastated by an Oct. 12 fire.

The fire started in the kitchen of the Log House Restaurant and spread to the roof before being put down by firefighters, who were able to save about 80 percent of the historic building.

James and Pat Green have operated 1776 Log House restaurant for 47 years, offering a fine-dining experience in 18th century atmosphere.

The log house began as a two-story log cabin built in 1776. Additions were added in 1804 and 1898, according to the Downtown organization. During the Civil War, it was owned by Joseph Chadwell, who lived there with freed slave Benjamin Steptoe, according to the organization. It was opened as Temptation Bakery in 1974, by James Green and Jerry Yonce, who added multiple additions, including a lounge and a gift shop.

The Green family has announced that they will be rebuilding soon. The crowdfunding money will help expedite the process, according to Downtown Wytheville. Find out how to donate at https://downtownwytheville.org/loghouserecovery/?fbclid=IwAR3Cvtphq1FN52zK7FWXwXrP4ihEs9mOU0QjabCCJw8UCei69PoWd7rwGV0
