Diamond, Akers earn animal control certifications

Wytheville Animal Control Officer Isaac Diamond and Wytheville Police Department Lt. Kenny Akers recently earned certification as animal control officers.

The two spent the past three weeks at the Law Enforcement Training Academy in Virginia Beach. The training is provided by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and the state Department of Criminal Justice Services.

The mission of the Wytheville Police Department Animal Control Unit is to balance the health, safety and welfare needs of the people and animals in our community. Through our mission we will educate the public about responsible companion animal ownership, aggressively investigate animal cruelty cases, provide compassion and humane care for unwanted, stray, abused, and abandoned animals in our town, give adoptable animals a second chance at a forever home.
