Downtown Christmas events on tap

Downtown Wytheville is ramping up for a two-weekend Christmas to Remember.

The annual Christmas parade is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 4. On Dec. 3, downtown will be awash with shoppers and business owners for the inaugural Christmas to Remember event from 6 to 9 p.m. the event is aimed at providing a time for the community to walk, shop and experience Christmas on Main Street.

The town hopes all local businesses outside of Main Street will join as well, helping to ring in the Christmas season with festivities. Main Street will be blocked off from 1st Street to 4th Street.

Food trucks and vendors will be posted down the alley between Devoted To You Boutique and The Paper Clip. Farmers market vendors will be lining Main Street, facing the sidewalk so patrons can stroll between vendors and the storefronts. Plans are to have arts and crafts vendors, baked goods and music at various locations. Music planned include small a capella groups, acoustic musicians, high school bands and more.

In addition actors dressed in period clothing will be performing short snips of plays and the Bolling Wilson Hotel will hold a Christmas lighting with high school bands and choirs.

In the the middle of the street will be games and bounce houses for the kids.

The event is being sponsored by downtown and Wytheville businesses.

On Dec. 7, Marion will host its annual Christmas parade. Marion will also host a downtown event on Dec. 3, featuring new Christmas lights, extended shopping hours and special food and drink menus at downtown eateries.
