Emory & Henry wrestlers make history

E&H grapplers made history on Wednesday, hosting the college’s first ever wrestling match, taking on Averett University at the John Rutledge King center.

The Cougars bested the Wasps 57-0. The E&H boys won three exhibition bouts.

Emory gave up 30 points in forfeits as the Wasps doesn’t have wrestlers between the 125 and 157 pound classes.

Freshman Dalton Biggs, the first E&H wrestling recruit, who wrestled in high school at Grayson County High School, fell by first-period pin at 165 pounds. At 174 pounds, Marion Senior High alum Matthew Cox, fell by pin, too.

The first win for Emory came during the exhibition bouts, when Blaze Hughes of Chilhowie pinned his opponent at the 5:55 mark.
