Faulkner leads GW to MED title

George Wythe’s girls sewed up a Mountain Empire District title in cross country, and Emma Faulkner clinched individual honors.

Faulkner raced to the finish line first with a time of 20:37.1.

Carrie Sage Dalton took seventh, clocking in at 24:14.1. Alana Malavolti’s 24:47.3 finish earned her eighth place.

Haley Faulkner’s 26:37.0 run gave her 15th place. Maggie Simons’ 28:08.1 finish was good for 21st. Willow Delp clocked in at 29:00.3, earning 25th place.

Grayson County earned third as a team, with Destyne Rutherford leading the way. Rutherford cruised to third place with a 21:37.2 run.

Maggie Prudencio finished in 12th place, clocking in at 26:11.5. Hayden Miller’s time of 27:38.0 earned her 18th, and Jaylah Garris finished in 23rd with a time of 28:21.2. Cienna Long clocked in at 29:20.6, earning 26th. In 27th Bethany Osborne finished in 29:33.8. Danica Kirby clocked in at 32:13.0, earning 30th place.

Galax claimed fourth as a team at the MED championship. Vivian Fant clocked in at 25:33.5, earning 10th place. Heaven Crookshanks clocked in at 26:27.6, good for 13th. Alexis Mitchell finished in 17th with a time of 27:24.1, while Addison Sheets finished in 20th, stopping the clock at 27:55.4. Briana Tasselmyer’s 30:35.4 run earned her 28th, and Ana Frausto clocked in at 37:15.4, good for 31st.

Bland’s lone runner, Jocelyn Parks, cracked the top 10, finishing sixth with a time of 24:06.7.

Fort Chiswell’s Aurora Haywood just missed the top 10, claiming 11th with a time of 26:05.3.
