Galax held onto the reins to continue their reign as golf champs at the Class 1 state tournament held Monday at Floyd’s Great Oaks Country Club.
The Maroon Tide finished well ahead of second place Northumberland with a score of 317. Northumberland shot a 343. Auburn, in third, finished with 353, followed by Lancaster with a 355.
Patrick Henry finished fifth with a team score of 362, and Chilhowie came in sixth, shooting 369 as a team.
Giles’ Walker Gillespie won the individual crown with a par 72 on the course. George Wythe’s David Goode and Galax’s Talan Genry tied for second with a 75. Grayden Laird finished fourth for Galax, shooting a 78.
Walker Jones of Northwood shot an 85. Will Barnes shot an 87 for Chilhowie and Will Goodwin an 88. Reece Vaught of George Wythe finished with 100.
