GW beats Honaker

The Maroons only needed their second half, where they scored 49 points, to overcome the Honaker threat, taking down the Tigers 76-48.

It’s a good thing they had that second half, though, because the GW boys were only ahead by four points at the break.

David Goode led the George Wythe crew with 20 points, 12 of them coming from firing beyond the arc. Reed Kirtner dropped in 17 points for GW.

The two teams very well may meet again, with both being favorites in their respective regions.

George Wythe got bested in a follow-up game, losing 75-70 in overtime to the crew from Chapmanville, West Virginia. Chapmanville was West Virginia’s state champs in 2018, 2019 and 2023.

Kirtner led the Maroons, scoring 22 points. Good clocked in 17 points.

The Maroons were playing catchup from the jump, falling behind 22-14 in the first quarter. By the half, though, GW held a lead thanks to a 24-13 run.
