Hikers across social media on Wednesday sent up flares warning of a potentially dangerous person on the Appalachian Trail near Harper’s Ferry.
According to posts on Facebook, many hikers have reported negative encounters with the man. One post said the man sat next to a solo female hiker who was eating lunch and asked if she was alone. As of Wednesday afternoon, the man was thought to be in Maryland, travelling south on the trail, carrying a day pack and a hammer.
