Hunter Taylor Named ODAC Offensive Player Of The Week

Emory & Henry College senior quarterback Hunter Taylor has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, ODAC officials announced Monday. The Summerville, South Carolina, native wins the award for the fourth time in his career. Emory & Henry has now seen one of its own earn player of the week honors from the league in each of its three games.


Taylor threw for two touchdowns on 11-for-17 passing for 246 yards in Friday’s 47-6 win over Guilford College. He also called his own number six times on the afternoon for 36 rushing yards and another score. The Stratford High School product hit junior wideout Elijah Rice six times for 199 yards and a touchdown as he connected with four different receivers on the day.
Taylor oversaw an offense that scored on six possessions in a row from the 10:34 mark of the first quarter through the opening drive of the third, including five straight touchdowns. After a 52-yard catch and run by Rice got the Wasps down to the one yardline, Taylor scored on a quarterback sneak to make the score 26-6. The next two possessions saw him hit senior wide receiver Gunner Griffith from 23 yards out and Rice for a 70-yard touchdown to put E&H up, 40-6.
With the completion of its regular season following the ‘opt-out’ by Washington and Lee University, Emory & Henry (3-0, 3-0 ODAC) now awaits the announcement of the pairings for the ODAC Championship and “crossover” games to be played on Friday, April 2.
