Another rabies case was confirmed in Galax.
This one, the fourth rabid animal found in the area in less than two months, was a gray cat who on March 11 crawled onto a residents porch in the 100 block of Petty Road.
When approached the semi-feral feline became aggressive. Earlier, the Health Department reported, the cat had attacked a tethered dog and shared a living environment with two other outdoor cats – a black and white short hair and a black and brown tabby short hair.
The gray cat has tested positive for rabies. The other two cats are still at-large and should be considered exposed to rabies.
Since Jan. 21, Galax has seen four rabid animals.
