Public event looks at how to identify human trafficking

THE SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA SUN NEWSPAPER AND NEWS WEBSITE

Every year, millions of men, women, and children are trafficked worldwide – including right here in the United States. It can happen in any community and victims can be any age, race, gender, or nationality. On Friday, May 31, The Sentinel Foundation will bring a team of experts to Marion to provide critical information every citizen can use to help stop human trafficking.

The Sentinel Foundation is a nonprofit made up of intelligence agents, federal law enforcement, and special operations military personnel who are dedicating their lives and career experience to combat human trafficking.  Glenn Devitt and James Guroni co-founded the organization, and this will be their first-ever event in the region to bring awareness to how we can join the fight.

Their mission, “to end underage children being exploited around the world”, has enlisted partner organizations from Samaratan’s Purse and Lifesong for Orphans to the Tim Tebow Foundation.  Recently, Jason Aldean’s wife Brittany raised $500,000 for The Sentinel Foundation to assist with their efforts.

The free public awareness program will be offered at Marion’s historic Lincoln Theatre on Friday, May 31, at 3 and 6 p.m.  Tickets are not required, but pre-registration is encouraged to ensure seating.
