M.S.G. Acoustic Blues Trio to play Lincoln stage in May

Get ready for an evening of smooth blues and roots-infused roof-raisers as the Grammy-nominated M.S.G. Acoustic Blues Trio takes the stage at the Lincoln Theater in Marion.

The performance will be held on Saturday, May 21 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, and $15 for students.

The group is proud to boast a diverse repertoire of music, with everything from covers of popular songs to ragtime tunes, there is sure to be something for everyone.

Although the band consists of a multitude of different instruments, it is primarily Jackie Merritt on harmonica, bones and ukulele; Miles Spicer on guitar and Resa Gibbs on lead vocals and washboard. Using these unique instruments, the group creates unforgettable renditions of all kinds of songs, promising to bring “not just a performance, but an event where everyone participates.”

“We invite the audience to share in our celebration,” the group says, explaining that their musical inspirations include, but are not limited to, Archie Edwards, Cephas and Wiggins, and Etta Baker, and describe their sound as “Piedmont-steeped, yet thoroughly up-to-date.”

Audience members can expect to experience a full range of emotions during the show, as some of the songs are comedic in nature, while others are soulful and touching, and some make the audience want to get up and dance!

Located in the heart of Marion’s vibrant downtown district, The Lincoln Theatre is a gorgeously restored theatre in the Mayan Revival style, offering year-round entertainment including; live music, comedy events, diversity awareness programs, classic & independent film series, youth artistic camps, theatrical performances, and so much more! Originally constructed in 1929 as Southwest Virginia’s premiere “movie palace,” the Lincoln has long been a community hub.

Now, the theatre is perhaps most famous as the home of Song of the Mountains, an award-winning public television series showcasing the music and culture of the Southern Appalachians. On the first Saturday of each month, Song of the Mountains is taped live in downtown Marion, airing on PBS stations across the country. In addition to the flagship Song of the Mountains, The Lincoln Theatre offers live music throughout the year, from casual open mic nights to big-name bluegrass and country stars.
