Music for Mother’s Day Concert

The Wytheville Concert Series’ next performance is at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, at St. John’s Episcopal Church.

Pianist Anna Billias, cellist Julia Goudimova and violinist Kevin Matheson will play a sunny program of Beethoven’s Spring Sonata, Haydn’s Piano Trio in G Major and some pieces suited to the date: Dvorak’s Songs My Mother Taught Me, “Mother and Child” by African-American composer William Grant Still and Salut d’Amour by Edward Elgar. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted to support the Wytheville Concert Series and the Wytheville Community College Food Bank.

Another music concert in the area will be on Friday, July 5 at 7 p.m. at The Blue Unicorn Mountain Retreat in Hillsville. Pianist Melia Garber will join violinist Kevin Matheson and violist Bryan Matheson to continue July 4th festivities with “A Celebration of American Composers” featuring Gershwin, Stephen Foster, Broadway and jazz favorites. Tickets are $10 at the door for this performance located at 152 N. Main St. in Hillsville.

Wytheville Concert Series performances are presented by Wytheville Community College, St. Paul United Methodist Church, St. John’s Episcopal Church, Wytheville Presbyterian Church the WCC Educational Foundation, and MacDowell Music Club and are under the artistic direction of Kevin Matheson.
