With the game knotted at 2-2, Fort Chiswell exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the third. The Fort tacked on three insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth to claim a Mountain Empire victory over George Wythe 13-3.
Mac Phillips drove in a pair of runs to lead the Pioneers at the plate.
The Fort girls didn’t have the same luck as the Lady Maroons remained unbeaten in the district.
UVA-Wise signee Olivia Shockley surrendered just two hits for GW, striking out 14.
Shockley also chipped in a pair of hits for the George Wythe crew.
Haley Brumbaugh managed to get the Fort on the board with a solo shot and GW took a 3-2 victory.
