Teams invited to register for VHCC golf tourney

Individuals and four-member teams are invited to register now for the 13th annual Virginia Highlands Community College Educational Foundation Golf Tournament to be held Friday., June 4, at Glenrochie Country Club, Abingdon.

Check-in begins at 8 a.m. with tee-off at 9 a.m. Awards will be presented for the first-, second- and third-place teams, and prizes will be presented for the longest drive, closest to the pin and hole in one. Participants will also be entered to win a foursome round of golf at The Virginian in Bristol.

The cost to play is $125 for individuals and $500 for four-member teams – and includes green fees, cart, two beverage tickets per player, continental breakfast, and lunch at the awards ceremony.

All proceeds from the tournament will benefit the student scholarship program at VHCC.

“I am certain that without this scholarship, I would have been unable to attend school. Financially, this scholarship has been an incredible boon for me,” said Austin Bailey, a previous VHCC scholarship recipient. “Thank you, again, for generously contributing to the scholarship program at VHCC. You are truly making a difference in our lives.”

More than 84 percent of VHCC students receive financial assistance to help cover the cost of tuition. Scholarships are awarded to both first- and second-year students based on merit and financial need.

“This is great opportunity to join this effort by being a sponsor or by entering a team,” said Virgil Wimmer, VHCC Foundation Board Chairman. “It’s fun and you’re helping our area students get a great education.”
