Teen charged in Sonic fight

A Thursday night fight at the Sonic Drive-In in Wytheville ended with a 17-year-old in custody, facing firearms and other charges.

The Wytheville Police responded to the restaurant at 7 p.m. after receiving a call about a fight. By the time officers arrived, however, the combatants had left the scene.

The police department described the fight as domestic in nature and involved a Sonic employees. Police also said that during the fight a 17-year-old brandished a firearm.

An out-of-town off-duty police officer at the drive-in identified himself as a law enforcement office and the teen ran to the next-door church parking lot and got into a vehicle. During patrol, officers found the car and the people suspected of being involved in the fight.

The 17-year-old was taken to the Highlands Juvenile Detention Center in Bristol, Virginia, charged with underage possession of a firearm, brandishing a firearm, disorderly conduct and underage possession of tobacco/vaping products.
