Theatre Bristol presents The Seussification of Romeo and Juliet weekends June 16-24 at the Theatre Bristol ARTspace with cast from around the region directed by Kate Thomas-Denson. Tickets are on sale now at www.TheatreBristol.org/tickets.
The Seussification of Romeo and Juliet is a “whimsical reinvention of Shakespeare’s tragic love story, complete with rhymed couplets, creative wordplay, and fantastical machines — similar to something Dr. Seuss might have come up with if he ever had his way with the script” and a fun show for all ages.
The Shakespeare-inspired, Dr. Seuss-imagined comedy seems familiar with Romeo played by Zaiah Gray and Juliet played by Lydia Brown. The citizens of Verona also include Cooper Knapp as Tybalt, Kiegan MacFarlane as Benvolio, Nathaniel Osborne as Mercutio, and Dalton Wise as Paris. Shyla Dunn is the Nurse and Balthasar, Sylas Lawson the Prince and Gregory, Amalia Hubbard is the Servant and Samson, and Baleigh McKeehan is Abram and Prologue. Turning a little more seussified, Steve Baskett is Monk Larry, Lord and Lady Capitulate are played by Richard Albright and Zoe LaRue respectively, and Lord and Lady Monotone are played by Ned Zeiler and Everild Blackburn respectively. The Narrators are Brianna Butler and Kate Zeiler.
Director Kate Thomas-Denson is supported by stage manager Camille Gray, set designer Deanna Vanders, lighting designer Bennett Little, props artisan Rebecca Ryan, and master electrician Albert Tester.
